MVS Summer Associate Profile: Chris Clever

Background

Chris is a rising senior at Harvard University and joined the Mount Vernon Strategies team for the summer. During his enrollment at Harvard, Chris has majored in Government and Economics, while focusing on International Relations. He spent his previous summer writing a business plan for an online company with which he was involved. While at MVS, Chris is training to throw the Javelin at the upcoming Olympic Games.

Why MVS?

"I chose to intern at MVS because they focus on solving real problems for growing companies. MVS's size and culture are perfect for an Internship. The company's small team approach is personal enough to help me with day-to-day questions, and gives me the freedom to do project work that would never reach me in one of the larger firms. During my first few months at MVS, I have drafted sections of business plans, and conducted extensive market research-experiences which have made my Internship at MVS enjoyable and worthwhile."

A Typical Day

8:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.: Redraft and edit a section of a business plan, based on the comments and suggestions of one of our Senior Consultants. In addition to writing changes, I construct a few graphs and charts, which make the document ready for client approval.

11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.: One of our Senior Consultants has asked me to find out the size of the US digital television market for an upcoming project. I spend this time searching the Internet as well as making a few phone calls in order to locate the specific information that he needs.

1:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.: Conduct phone interviews with specific industry experts for a client. I take detailed notes on these calls and will eventually tabulate the results and present them to one of our Senior Associate Consultants in the form of a memo that will be sent to our client.

3:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.: Our office manager is in a meeting and I assume her role by answering the phones and greeting people at the door.

4:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.: Meeting with two other consultants that are working on a business planning project for a client in the organic foods space. A Senior Consultant critiques the work we have completed to date and makes suggestions for future progress.
