The 6-year-old Mount Vernon specializes in market research, strategic planning, business plan advice and technology consulting. Clients of the 11-employee company include Au Bon Pain, the Vermont Teddy Bear Co., Green Mountain Coffee Co. and WGBH, according to senior partner Charles Collier. First will head Mount Vernon's branding and marketing practices. During the past 18 months, a lot of Mount Vernon's clients have been consumer goods companies, so First was a natural fit, Collier said. "They have to make decisions about what to do about their brands, to grow, acquire or drop a brand," Collier said. "Tom brings a tremendous amount of knowledge to the table." Collier cited Nantucket Nectars' early experiences trying to distribute bottled juice themselves, the company's award-winning label designs and the company's steep growth trajectory under the leadership of First and Tom Scott. In March, London-based Cadbury Schweppes PLC announced that it would buy Nantucket Nectars - which is now based in Cambridge - from Ocean Spray Cranberries Inc. of Lakeville and minority shareholders. John Kogan joins MVS as a Senior Partner. John served as Vice President of Enterprise Technology for Goldman Sachs Company from 1996-April 2002. During this period he managed Global NT deployments and reduced desktop operating expenses by 25%. From 1993-1996 John was responsible for strategic planning and installation of technology for Goldman Sachs' Equities Division in Asia. His technology budget during this period was $12 million and he managed over 40 business professionals. Prior to working at Goldman Sachs, John was a senior consultant for Peat Marwick.
